MAED • INTEGRATED URBAN AGRICULTURE

Kirkos Urban Agriculture

Bringing controlled environments, hydroponics, nursery production and precision irrigation together to demonstrate modern agriculture in Addis Ababa.

PROJECT OVERVIEWOne site. Connected agricultural systems.

The Kirkos project brings Ethio-Leap’s integrated approach to urban agriculture into practice. Protected growing environments, hydroponic systems, nursery facilities and precision irrigation connect seedling establishment with crop production.

The project reflects the MAED Agro-Tech Incubation Center concept: creating practical settings where agricultural technologies can be demonstrated, understood and developed through hands-on learning and research.

PROJECT IN ACTIONSee integrated urban agriculture at work.

Explore how the Kirkos installation brings four complementary systems together. Controlled environments support crop management, hydroponics enables soil-free production, nurseries support young plants, and precision irrigation delivers water around crop requirements.

WHAT WE DELIVEREDFour systems. One integrated installation.

CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENTS
Protected growing spaces supporting crop management.

HYDROPONIC SYSTEMS
Soil-free systems for crop production.

NURSERY PRODUCTION
Facilities supporting young plants before transplanting.

PRECISION IRRIGATION
Water delivery designed around crop requirements.

RESULTS & IMPACT

Infrastructure that supports production and learning.

Kirkos provides a practical setting for demonstrating how modern agricultural systems can work together within the city. The MAED approach connects this infrastructure with technical learning, agricultural enterprise and opportunities to explore production methods suited to urban conditions.

CONNECTED PRODUCTION

Controlled environments, hydroponics, nursery production and precision irrigation brought together.

PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION

A setting where modern agricultural systems can be seen and their operation understood.

FOUNDATION FOR LEARNING

Infrastructure supporting MAED’s purpose of practical learning and agricultural research.

URBAN AGRICULTURAL OPPORTUNITY

A platform for exploring production methods and agricultural enterprise suited to the city.
