Arada Urban Agriculture Project

An integrated urban agriculture installation bringing production, technology demonstration and practical learning into one setting.

PROJECT OVERVIEWTurning the MAED concept into agricultural infrastructure.

The Arada MAED (ማዕድ) Agro-Tech Incubation Center farm brings together controlled environments, hydroponics, nursery production and precision irrigation.

These connected systems demonstrate Ethio-Leap’s approach to designing agricultural infrastructure around the complete production process—from establishing young plants to managing their growing environment, water and nutrition.

The broader MAED initiative, developed in partnership with the Office of the Mayor of Addis Ababa, brings together demonstration, training and research.

PROJECT IN ACTIONFour systems. One integrated installation.

Explore Arada’s protected growing spaces, hydroponic production systems, nursery facilities and precision irrigation infrastructure. Together, they provide a visible example of how agriculture, engineering and technology can be combined within an urban farming site.

WHAT WE DELIVEREDConnected systems for urban production.

CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENTS
Protected growing spaces supporting crop management.

HYDROPONIC SYSTEMS
Soil-free systems for crop production.

NURSERY PRODUCTION
Facilities supporting young plants before transplanting.

PRECISION IRRIGATION
Water delivery designed around crop requirements.

RESULTS & IMPACT

A platform for demonstration, learning and development.

Arada gives the MAED concept a practical setting where agricultural systems can be seen and their operation understood. The integrated installation supports the initiative’s ambition to connect crop production with technical learning, research and the development of urban agricultural opportunities.

INTEGRATED URBAN PRODUCTION

Controlled environments, hydroponics, nursery production and precision irrigation in one installation.

TECHNOLOGY MADE VISIBLE

A practical setting where agricultural systems can be seen and their operation understood.

PUBLIC-SECTOR COLLABORATION

Part of the broader MAED initiative developed with the Office of the Mayor of Addis Ababa.

FOUNDATION FOR LEARNING
